The 3-Day Observance Arc
Ekādaśī is a three-day discipline. Preparation begins on Daśamī.
Daśamī · Day of Preparation (Samyama)
Saturday, 12 July 1788
Eat a single light sattvic meal before sunset. Avoid heavy grains, lentils, or eating late at night. Take a holy bath and resolve for the fast.
Ekādaśī · Day of Fast & Vigil (Vrata)
Sunday, July 13, 1788 · Begins 6:23 AM (Sunrise)
Complete fast from sunrise to sunrise (water-only, fruits, or Nirjala as per capacity). Continuous prayer, chanting, and night vigil (Jāgaraṇa).
Dvādaśī · Breaking the Fast (Pāraṇā)
Monday, 14 July 1788 · Pāraṇā Window: 6:23 AM – 9:36 AM
Morning bath, offer charity (dāna) to the needy or Brahmins, and break the fast strictly within the pāraṇā window before Dvādaśī ends.
Karka Saṅkrānti
The Sun enters Karka
Sunday, 13 July 1788
The Sun crosses at 12:18 AM, your local time
The Sun reaches its northern limit and turns south: Dakṣiṇāyana begins, the half-year held to be the "night of the gods." It is the counterpart of Makara Saṅkrānti and the start of the monsoon-season reckoning.
What is done, Kept with charity and the remembrance of ancestors (tarpaṇa); a turning-point for vows and the cāturmāsya season.

What You Just Read: The Three Frames of Time
The saṅkalpa places the moment in three nested dimensions—cosmic, calendrical, and astronomical—so the seeker knows exactly when and where they stand in eternity.
Cosmic Time (Eternal Scale)
Cosmic time doesn’t change with where you read this. Śveta-varāha is the present kalpa (~4.32 billion years). Vaivasvata is the current manvantara. Kali-yuga prathama pāda places us in the first quarter of the dark age. Identical whether recited in Bengaluru, Mumbai, London, or New York.
Calendrical Time (Solar & Seasonal Cycles)
Calendrical time tracks the present era and season: the Śaka era (from 78 CE), the 60-year Jovian saṁvatsara cycle, Uttarāyaṇa or Dakṣiṇāyana (solar transit), and the bi-monthly ṛtu (season).
Astronomical Time (The Five Limbs of Pañchāṅga)
Astronomical time is the immediate daily rhythm: māsa (lunar month), pakṣa (fortnight), tithi (lunar day), vāra (solar weekday), nakṣatra (moon constellation), yoga, and karaṇa.
Local Sunrise Reckoning & Daily Purpose
All values above are calculated for your local sunrise. The day traditionally belongs to whichever tithi prevailed at sunrise.
The saṅkalpa is the daily (nitya) opening of sacred life. Recited each morning, it re-anchors you in awareness of eternity and dedicates your actions with resolve.
Celestial Coordinates & Muhūrtas
5:37 PM – 7:13 PM
12:48 PM – 2:24 PM
12:24 PM – 1:12 PM
Bearings indicate horizon degrees. Rāhu and Yamagaṇḍa are avoided for new auspicious beginnings; Abhijit is the midday victory window.
